Jake Drysdale is a very bright 11 year old who
is curious about so many things. Although he is
originally from St. Louis, Missouri, he now
lives in London, England with his mom and dad
and is in the 5th grade of The American School.
When he lived in the US, he loved to hike in
Glacier National Park with his family. While
hiking to Grinnell Glacier in 2007, he noticed
how much Grinnell Glacier had melted just over
the years he had been hiking there. That is when
he became interested in glaciers and
why
they were melting. He quickly learned that our
glaciers are not only melting in Glacier
National Park but all over the world.
That is why he decided that his next class
science project would be about glaciers and why
they are melting. Because glaciers provide much
of the freshwater for people all over the world,
he wanted to understand why our glaciers are
melting. His project entitled “Effects of Global
Warning on Melting Glaciers” won a first place
blue ribbon!
Then Jake and his dad decided to co-author a
book about all of the neat things he had learned
about glaciers from his project. That book is
Goodbye Glaciers by Buck Douglas and Jake
Drysdale. It can be purchased on-line through
the Glacier Association by going to
www.glacierassociation.org.
